"On Section 8 waiting list for like FOREVER!"
| |Well, let’s face it. We’re all in the same boat. Government and us, common civilians. We’re going through tough times.
Government funds are also short. Therefore just consider yourself lucky! YOU ARE on the waiting list! There’s no way for us to tell you when that magical time will be. Don’t loose hope. Keep calling. Keep getting updates. Provide them with your most current contact info.
Don’t be naive though, and just let your life pass by hanging to that moment! It might be years and years and years! But Hey! It’s better late than never!
I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t take it for granted. Don’t just sit waiting for that call. Keep looking forward to make it on your own. Find a job, get a place. There are some organizations that help people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and placement, and housing.
Call 311 or your local City Service Hotline, churches, Salvation Army…
Good Luck!
I got on the waiting list in OC,CA in March 2006. In July 2009 my wait was 18 months. In July 2010 my wait was 36 months (that is not at typo). I just got my letter for my eligibility appointment last week. I have 9 days to get all my paperwork together and they want everything so be prepared.
Lucky You! Congrats!

Unfortunately yes. Try calling the Section 8 Housing Authority where you applied and try to get an update on your application. In the meantime you should look for other Homeless Prevention option.
