One of the more frequent questions on this site is how to speed up the Section 8 waitlist times. Up until now, there was no real good way to do that. The vouchers are given out randomly, usually via a lottery system and there is no rhyme or reason to when they release the vouchers each year (if at all).
Some counties give preferential treatment to the disabled and vets. But there is nothing one can actively do to move up on the waitlist.
That may be changing.
In Illinois, they are mulling over a plan to give preferential treatment and quicker voucher access to those with part time employment. If you can verify that you work at least 20 hours per week, you will be moved up on the waiting list and get your voucher sooner.
These changes are likely to be enacted in the Danville county in Illinois and may soon spread throughout the country. This is great news for those with part time jobs already, and those actively seeking employment.
